Why people order astrology and Human Design reports

Most people who order a personal astrology or Human Design report are not looking for a prediction. Surveys and interviews show that they want a new angle on themselves: words for their strengths, their relationships and the moments when life changes direction. A good report gives that language in plain words, so you can reflect on it and come back to it later.

How many people use astrology

Astrology is far from a niche interest. In autumn 2024, the Pew Research Center surveyed 9,593 adults in the United States. It found that 30% consult astrology, tarot cards or a fortune teller at least once a year. Astrology and horoscopes were the most common of the three, at 28%. About 27% said they believe in astrology, almost the same share as in 2017 (29%).

Interest is highest among younger women. In the same survey, 37% of women consulted astrology at least once a year, and among women aged 18 to 49 the figure was 46%.

Knowing your sign is close to universal. A 2022 YouGov poll of 3,472 adults in the United States found that 90% could name their zodiac sign.

In Britain, a YouGov poll in 2015 found a telling gap. Only 8% thought horoscopes can predict the future, but 20% thought star signs say something useful about personality. Many people see astrology as a description, not a forecast.

A growing market

  • The research firm IBISWorld estimates that psychic services in the United States, a sector that includes astrology and tarot readings, earned about 2.3 billion US dollars in 2025.
  • According to Sensor Tower data reported by TechCrunch, the top 10 astrology apps in the United States earned about 40 million dollars in 2019, 64.7% more than the year before.
  • The app Co–Star reported more than 20 million downloads when it raised 15 million dollars in new funding in 2021, according to Axios.

The rise of Human Design

Human Design is much younger than astrology. It was created by Alan Robert Krakower, who took the name Ra Uru Hu, after an experience he described on the Spanish island of Ibiza in 1987. It combines astrology with the I Ching and a chart of nine energy centres, and it sorts people into five types.

In recent years it has moved from small workshops into the mainstream. A critical 2025 essay in UnHerd described Human Design spreading to business retreats, leadership conferences and LinkedIn, and lifestyle magazines such as PureWow publish beginner's guides to the types. Part of the appeal is practical. Human Design talks less about personality and more about decisions and energy, and questions like "How should I decide?" or "Why am I always tired?" are easy to relate to. Our guide to the five Human Design types explains the basics.

Why people turn to it

Research and reporting point to a few motives that come up again and again.

Making sense of yourself. For a 2025 study in the sociology journal Social Currents, Shiri Noy, Christopher Scheitle, Katie Corcoran and Avantaea Siefke combined national survey data with interviews. Writing about it in The Conversation, they concluded that astrology is "less about predicting the future and more about making sense of the self in an uncertain world". Many of the people they interviewed compared it to personality tools such as the Myers-Briggs test or the enneagram, and few saw it as literally predictive.

Fun and curiosity. Pew found that 20% of adults in the United States use astrology, tarot or fortune tellers mostly for fun, and 10% mostly because they find the insights helpful. Only 1% said they rely on them a lot for major life decisions.

Turning points. A 1998 study in the journal European Psychologist found that interest in astrology was linked to the number of personal crises people had been through. In everyday life, such turning points might be a breakup, a move, a new job or a milestone birthday.

Uncertainty. Psychologist Stephen Benning of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, told Discover magazine in 2021 that astrology gives people a way to make sense of experiences that would otherwise feel chaotic.

A shared language. Signs and types give people quick words for real differences. "I need a plan before I can relax" becomes "my Moon is in Capricorn". The Social Currents researchers also found that astrology gives many people a sense of community.

What people say they got out of it

The accounts below come from published articles. These people are not Skyspoken customers, and we quote them as they were reported.

  • A team that understands each other. Cat Lincoln runs the influencer marketing company CLEVER. She told Fortune in 2023 that she has used "office astrology" for years, alongside Myers-Briggs and other personality tests, to help her 22-person team understand one another. She was clear about its limits: "We don't make business decisions based on astrology."
  • Learning about yourself at a turning point. Deon Mitchell, then an 18-year-old astrologer, told the Boston Globe in 2020 that studying astrology was "a way for me to learn about myself at this really pivotal point".
  • A sceptic's calm. Journalist Chloe Gray went to a 90-minute birth chart reading as a sceptic and wrote about it for Stylist in 2020. She left feeling calm and reflective, and she was also honest that some of the insights could have been guessed from her job or her social media. That mix of value and doubt is a fair way to approach any reading.

An honest word on evidence

Astrology has been tested as a way to predict personality, and it has not passed. In a well-known double-blind study published in Nature in 1985, researcher Shawn Carlson asked astrologers to match birth charts to personality profiles. They did no better than chance. Psychologists also point to the Barnum effect: the human tendency to accept general descriptions as personally accurate.

Human Design, numerology and the Destiny Matrix have not been scientifically validated either. None of them is a science.

So why use them at all? Because a symbol does not have to be literally true to be a useful prompt. A chart gives you a structured set of themes and questions: Is this true of me? Where does it show up? What would help? The value comes from your own reflection. That is how Skyspoken writes about these systems: as a language of symbols and a tool for self-reflection, not a prediction. Reports are not medical, psychological, legal or financial advice.

What a report adds to a free chart

A free calculator shows your placements. A report explains what they mean together. At Skyspoken these are two separate steps. An astronomical engine calculates your chart from your birth moment and place. The explanation is then written with the help of AI in plain language, based only on your data, and every report says that AI helped create it.

What a personal report gives you:

  • The whole picture in one place. The Birth chart report covers your first impression, feelings, work, love and money, career, inner tension and life lesson.
  • Something to try. The Human Design report explains your type, strategy, authority and profile, then turns them into everyday experiments for decisions and energy.
  • Words for patterns. The Numerology profile sets your life path, expression and soul urge numbers side by side and shows where they agree and where they pull apart.
  • A next step. Every chapter ends with a practical "What helps" line.
  • A document to return to. A PDF stays with you, so you can read it again in six months and see what has changed.

What helps. Read a report twice. The first time, mark what fits and what does not. A month later, read only the parts you marked and ask what you did with them. The second reading is often where the value is.

How to choose your first report

  • If you want the full picture and know your birth time, start with the birth chart. Our guide to the Sun, Moon and rising sign is a good first step.
  • If decisions and energy are your main question, start with Human Design.
  • If you do not know your birth time, choose numerology or the Destiny Matrix, which need only your date of birth.
  • If the report is for someone else, read how to choose an astrology report as a gift.
